I want to go to Cornell for engineering(mechanical or computer?) , but my friends said that even the Valedictorians and Salutatorians from past 5 years, who have had 2200+ (SAT scores), did not get accepted. I have these stats:
3.9 GPA
1730 SAT score(Not official but diagnostic tests in sat prep courses, 640 math, 500 critical reading, 590 writing)
Played in Marching and Concert Band for 7 years (including elementary and middle school)
moving into Cisco Networking for the next 2 years
National Honor Society, math, tri-m, and English honor societies
robotics
Intel (advanced research)
Spring Track

*I have also taken all Honors Course. I am going to be taking AP Physics 1 and 2, AP US, AP Eng. Lang, and Pre-calculus BC honors all next year. I want to get into a good college/ university. I was thinking about going into Stony Brook, Binghamton, University of Buffalo, Rochester, RPI or any other good SUNY or private college. I also heard Governor Cuomo is launching a STEM program, so if one is enlisting in a Science, math, engineering, or technology, one may get a full ride to any SUNY school if one is in the top 10% of their class. I really want a scholarship for the college I go to because my family always wanted me to get one because I am the first gen. of my family to study in the USA. So, in conclusion, I just want to know if I can get into Cornell. If not, Maybe any good schools such as Stony Brook, Binghamton, University of Buffalo, Rochester, RPI or any other good school?

Unfortunately, your SAT score indicates that you are not going to be a strong candidate for a top school like Cornell. SUNYs are a better option.
