Practice makes perfect.. When I was an aide in the public schools in Arizona I had just come from Mississippi.. and whenever I had to give a spelling test the kids would fail.. I asked why they failed because I knew they could spell the words they missed.. they told me that they could not understand what I was saying.. so every night I went home and practiced pronouncing the words clearly.. and it worked.. figure out what words you would use the most to the people at your call center and then practice them over and over.. Good Luck :)

I agree with Junkee. Also, there should be accent courses there, no? But I think the most important things are the expressions and interactions - cultural communication rather than accent. Maybe if you can find more info & work on that it may be a good selling point that can make up for the strong accent? For example, if someone says "I am a bit confused about this", a good US answer would be "Ok, what's the problem?" while it's a bit awkward to hear "What is the source of your confusion?"

From what I've learned with my studies in Psychology and Linguistics, there isn't too much you can do about an accent. Once you hit puberty, your native accent will pervade any new language you learn. It may lessen with time spent in the country where your new language is spoken, but it really never goes away. Really, what you have to do is make a concious effort to mimic the accent you want to acquire (American, in this case, I'm assuming). Hope that helps at least a little.

Why then try too. Many people think an accent sounds sexy .And if the accent is very well heard , you'll probably always have it .Especially if you don't speak English in your home . As long as you can be understood . I think that's all that is important .

Boy, that's hard. I have a terrible American accent in any other language I speak. I think the best thing to help you is to try to speak English with native speakers as often as possible, and to listen to English news broadcasts and to try to repeat the pronunciations. If you record yourself it helps to hear your own accent. Work hard, it will help.
