I'm currently trying to receive online schooling, my Old online school was ECOT. Now I'm trying to switch to one called OVS BUT the problem is, is that ECOT seems to not be cooperating in sending my transcript to my new school. We've called and called and no one gets back to us. OVS Even tried to contact them but they never got a reply either. We can't go to the schools headquarters because its in Columbus. Times running out on the semester and I was suppose to be in 12th grade to graduate. The only other place I can think of getting my transcript is from my middle school and that stops at 9th grade!! Crap! What do I do? I want to graduate!!! I'm pretty much facing the fact that ECOT will NOT send my transcripts. Is there a way I can convince them to let me go to my proper grade anyway? If I have to start all over I'm quitting school. Thanks in advanced!

You're discovering one of many of the bad things about "online" schools, but rather than lecture you on that awful choice, let me tell you your options for getting ECOT to cooperate. They are a business, so they react to threats to their money. One choice is to hire a lawyer to contact them and threaten a lawsuit. This will be expensive and time consuming. Another way is to contact the state board of education in the state of Ohio, complain to them, and ask for some action. This, too, will be time consuming. If I were in your situation, I would take the following steps. First, I would talk on the telephone with someone from OVS. Have the information ready about their attempts to contact ECOT and see if you can negotiate temporary status in 12th grade until the transcript matter is resolved. Next, pursue one of the choices about forcing ECOT to fork over the transcript. You will need it anyway, since OVS must have on file a complete record of all your credits before they can graduate you. Now, you will not like the third thing, but I will tell you anyway. Go to the offices of the local school district and discuss the matter with officials there. Find out how difficult it will be to finish your final year in a real high school. Why should you consider this? Because the school district has lots of ways to contact ECOT and can force them to release your transcript faster than you can yourself. They also have lawyers on retainer, don't have to pay them extra, and can put them to work on your behalf. Yes, you will have to attend a real high school for your final year. And you might have to repeat some classes which they will not accept, since online schools are notoriously weak. But you will end up with a diploma everyone respects and lots of opportunities for jobs and colleges. Consider it.

My guess is that you are trying to do things over Christmas break and the school is closed. Once they get back in the office after the first of January have OVS contact them. Once it is confirmed that you have withdrawn from ECOT and your equipment is returned they will probably send the transcript.

I do not think it to be true
