Process Essay
What about Firewalls?
"Identity Theft is one of the fastest growing modern day crimes and can "cripple" the affected individual. Larry George explained in "Pc Security, Startling Facts!" on b2barticles.com. In modern day times, internet security is as important as the secret service is to the president. It just has to be done. To properly keep your information out of the wrong hands you need a properly configured firewall. I am going to help you set up a firewall so your information is harder to be compromised by internet hackers on the internet. This process essay can be of major help to ensuring your internet security.
What is a firewall you may wonder? A firewall is essentially a system that controls access between one or more networks. The main role of a firewall is to either block or permit access. If you don't know what to block or allow then a firewall might not help you like you think it might. You have to tell it what to enforce, whether that maybe be blocking all type of processes except for email and instant messaging. If you set your firewall on a default level, because you don't know how to configure it then your not using the firewall to the best of it's ability but some protection is better than no protection.
I already mentioned what a firewall is but there are two types. Software and hardware firewalls. Software firewalls are software you install on your operating system to further protect your computers network. On the other hand a hardware firewall is essentially a stand alone product, for example, a broadband router that uses tools such as packet filtering to test the source and destination of where the information is coming from. The best tools for internet security is to have both software and internet firewalls, having an up to date operating will allow the both the firewalls to work more efficiently.
I held of on explaining how to set a firewall up because it is relatively easy to do so. To do so you have click the Start Menu, then click on Control Panel, then click on Security (that can be found at the bottom right corner). After you click that icon, it will take you to the Windows Security Center. You can choose to either to put on the firewall or you can not have it on. If you choose not to let it on you will have your computer readily available to viruses and intruders. Once you put it on you can go to the Exceptions tab and you can allow or deny programs that the firewall choose to on the default setting. If you are more experienced with this process you can go to the Advanced tab and change certain settings your firewall has in place.
As you can see setting up a firewall isn't that hard. The only hard part is for the hackers that can't get access to your at home network. Businesses aren't the only people concerned with protecting their identity and private information on the world wide web, now a days. To further protect yourself against intruders install virus and spyware software because sometimes a firewall may not be enough protection. This is the time to have a properly configured firewall, running on a up to date operating system with virus and spyware protection programs because there are over 900 new viruses created each and every month.
