Yes, it means man.

translated:

homo sapiens= smart person/human

homo sapiens sapiens = smart smart person/human

There has been controversy in how humans should be renamed as Pan Sapiens, because of the relationship that human genetics share with the bonobo species. However, this isn't related to why you are asking about homo.

You could have guessed from "homosexual" that since you know what sexual means, then you should know what homo means. Man love man equals homo for man, and sexual for love. But then again, the homo could mean similar. As lesbian and gay is termed homosexual rather than homosexual being only a term for men liking men. This homo being the homo from homonyms, similar words.

Curse my mind! I swerve like a drunk driver. In summary: Homo = man. Sapiens = smart. Some people think that homo should be changed to "pan" and that the homo in homosexual is different than homo in homo sapiens.

Homo- is a Latin prefix that means "the same."

The prefix is used in many words--Homo-sexual (same sex), homo-sapiens (the same knowledge, that is, wise in the same way), homo-geneous (same kind or nature). Homo- is the opposite of "hetero-," another prefix that means other than.

Homo- does NOT mean man. I know that the French for man is Homme and one might think that homo- must mean man, but it does not. You can look this up in the Merriam-Webster dictionary (in the sourcwe).

It means "man", unless your Latin is being taught by the Boston Archdioces in which case it means "bishop".

Human.

Homo sapiens - wise man; knowing man.

And homo erectus is not a gay with erection,

it's our ancestor who started walking on two legs!!!

People like Pandak shouldn't call themselves teacher!!!!!

Not "man" specifically, but "human" or "person."

Using it as "man" meaning humankind is old usage, but probably still acceptable.
